Which Side Are You On: Do Admissions Consultants Give Applicants An Unfair Advantage?

“Do you believe students who use admissions consultants have an unfair advantage over those who don’t?”

One of the most interesting things to come out of my time at the 2016 GMAC Annual Conference occurred after I shared this statistic in front of a group of admissions professionals:

50 percent of admissions teams believe students who work with consultants have an unfair advantage over their peers.

In our recent survey of top business schools, we asked admissions professionals whether or not consultants give applicants an unfair advantage.

Opinions were split right down the middle — with 50% believing that consultants gave students an unfair advantage, and 50% believing there was no advantage.

People started to ask: “Which side are you on?”

The conversation elicited a lot of strong opinions.

So I want to know, do you believe that students who use consultants have an unfair advantage?
